The magazine is a consumable and replaceable component of airsoft weaponry that directly affects in-game tactics. Its type determines how frequently reloading is required and how realistically the replica operates. There are two main types of magazines: mechanical and high-capacity (bunker). The mechanical magazine is an exact replica of a live magazine: inside, a follower driven by an expanding spring pushes BBs through a feed channel directly into the weapon's receiver. Capacity typically ranges from 20–30 rounds for pistol models to 100–140 for rifle models. The high-capacity magazine features a hollow cavity inside the body; BBs are poured in through a special loading window. To feed BBs to the receiver, the spring must be periodically wound via a ratchet wheel at the bottom of the magazine. Capacity ranges from 300 to 500 rounds for rifle models. A separate category comprises gas magazines for GBB replicas: a gas reservoir is housed inside the magazine; when the trigger is pulled, a valve releases the required amount of gas for the shot. These magazines simultaneously store both BBs and gas.
