Short description

Kestrel 5500 is a portable weather station in a pocket-sized format. It measures 14 weather parameters, logs data, and can work in tandem with a smartphone. Suitable for use in conditions where accurate knowledge of weather conditions is critical — from construction sites to mountain slopes.

You can get all the information by phone

The Kestrel 5000 is a next-generation multifunctional measuring instrument from the Kestrel 5 Series, replacing the 4000 model. Unlike simpler models in the series, it is equipped with a humidity sensor and a large high-contrast graphical display, as well as memory for storing up to 10,000 readings with graphing of parameter changes over time. The instrument measures wind speed using a replaceable impeller sensor, records air temperature and relative humidity via an external sensor, and displays atmospheric pressure, dew point, wet bulb temperature, wind chill, and heat index readings. Optional LiNK (Bluetooth) wireless data transmission to a smartphone or computer is available. Power from a single AA battery ensures extended autonomous operation.

Kestrel 5000 applications

  • Outdoor recreation and sports — hiking, fishing, paragliding, aeromodelling: the device helps assess conditions before heading out and make an informed safety decision.
  • Long-range shooting — allows accounting for wind speed, temperature, humidity, and pressure for precise shot correction.
  • Field weather monitoring and data logging — suitable for specialists working outdoors: construction workers, agricultural professionals, rescue personnel, meteorologists, and researchers who require current data and observation history.

Kestrel 5000 advantages

  • Ruggedness and water resistance — the housing meets IP67 (NEMA-6) standard and withstands impact loads per MIL-STD-810G, ensuring reliable operation under harsh conditions.
  • Data recording and analysis — built-in memory for 10,000 data points with on-screen graphing capability and data export to PC or Mac, as well as optional wireless transmission via LiNK.
  • Long battery life and ease of maintenance — a single lithium AA battery provides up to 400 hours of operation, and the impeller sensor can be replaced by hand without tools directly in the field.

  • Measured parameters: wind speed and direction, headwind/tailwind and crosswind, air temperature, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure, dew point, wet bulb temperature, wind chill, heat index, barometric and density altitude (up to 14 parameters total)
  • Wind speed range: 0.6 — 40.0 m/s (operating up to 60.0 m/s)
  • Wind direction range: 0 — 360° (built-in compass)
  • Temperature measurement range: from −29 to +70 °C
  • Humidity range: 5 — 95% (operating range 0 — 100%)
  • Pressure range: 750 — 1,100 hPa
  • Dust and moisture protection rating: IP67 (submersion up to 1 m / 30 min)
  • Impact resistance: MIL-STD-810G
  • Display: large high-resolution high-contrast graphical LCD, backlight (white / red in NV mode)
  • Power supply: AA battery (lithium), ~400 hours
  • Dimensions and weight: 12.2 × 4.2 × 1.8 cm, ~65–70 g (instrument without case)
